Ryhill

               The Village Green

My parents and I moved to our bungalow in Ryhill in April 2000 and have spent the next year getting the bungalow to our liking.

Walls were knocked through, fireplaces taken out, a dressing room made, repairs done, bar removed(!), decorations redone and the garden sorted out.

Although the bungalow is not very old it is built on the site of former cottages and there is still a retaining wall over 200 years old. There is also an old cellar leading out into the road, under our garage. It was part of one of the cottages on the site.

The earliest name we could find on the deeds to the property was a person called Cuttle, and we have named the bungalow "Cuttle Cottage".

I now live on my own, apart from my dog Louie, and you can read about my house under Pickleberry.

Ryhill is a small close knit village but everyone has been very friendly towards us as newcomers.

Our view out over Wintersett Reservoirs and Wakefield beyond are really something, and always admired by visitors.

Botany Bay - the smallest reservoir

The reservoir is used for sailing by The West Riding sailing Club and often they organise regattas with over twenty yachts on the lake.
